The city of Higginsville, established over 130 years ago in 1869, was incorporated as a fourth class city in Lafayette County in 1886. The city has a mayor-alderman-city administrator form of government. Having a strong farm heritage, the City's goal of balanced growth between residential and business is based on traditional values and progressive leadership. We are proud to rpovide citizens with state-of-the-art municipal owned electric, water and sanitary sewer utilities. Competitive rates, quality service and quick response time are advantages we enjoy by having locally owned utilities.
A new city comprehensive plan is addressing important issues such as city services, retentions of current businesses and attracting new ones, jobs, population growth, affordable housing, recreation, transportation, highways and roads, and education.
The city is a major employer in the community with a staff of 60 full-time and 30 seasonal part-time employees.
The geographical location of Higginsville in Lafayette County allows citizens and visitors alike to enjoy the easy, relaxed way of life in this rural setting. Just as important, is the cities' proximity to I-70 and the many opportunities that await our citizens in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
