 The mission of the Higginsville Parks and Recreation Department is to establish, enhance, and manage public parks and recreational cultural, educational, and leisure opportunities to benefit the quality of life for the citizens of Higginsville.
The Higginsville Parks and Recreation Department offer a wide variety of programs ranging from youth and adult sports, special events, aquatics, teen activities, instructional youth sports camps, and instructional classes.
Park Facilities
Our park facilities are second to none. Fairground Park, located off Fairground Avenue and Cypress, is a 40 acre park with a beautiful half-mile walking track, lighted baseball and softball diamonds, basketball courts, lighted horseshoe courts, shelter houses, grills, lighted tennis courts, a multi-purpose 4-H building, a community building, public restrooms, playground equipment, an amphitheater and open space areas.
RV camping is also available with electrical hookups, limited water hookups, and a dumping station. Tent camping is permitted in specific areas.
The recently renovated Municipal Swimming Pool and Recreation Center is also located in Fairground Park. It is a 120,000 gallon public pool with a season from June through August and offers open swimming, swim lessons, swim team, and a number of special events. There is no better place to cool down on a sizzling hot summer's day!
If you are looking for a place to hold your family picnic or reunion, Fairground Park is the place to be! The park has enclosed and open shelters available for reservations as well as the Community Building which includes kitchen facilities and restrooms. The 4-H building is also available for rent if you need a large area for auctions, sales, etc.
 Other parks included in our system offer a variety of features in a smaller, friendly neighborhood park setting. These features include picnic and playground equipment, lighted tennis court, basketball court and open space areas.
Recreation Programs
Recreation programs are offered throughout the four seasons. Program information is available by calling 660-584-7313.
A "Bag of Fun" is also available for rent to entertain your children young and old. This kit includes a variety of sports equipment such as balls, bats, and Frisbees. A complete volleyball system is also available.
